Sports Stories Weekly is a sports show recorded and produced year-round dedicated to developing content that is highly accessible, highly entertaining, and high quality, helping you feed your passions faithfully in our increasingly post-Christian culture.

Relaunched in 2024 by Tom Middler, Russ Bravo and David Garratt, Sports Stories Weekly is an outlet to express our sporting frustrations through our blend of humour, insight, and nuanced analysis and help navigate and engage the complicated world of sports culture in the UK. Each week provides an expression of faith in debates being held in living rooms and office blocks across the country.

The show itself is distributed across a wide range of digital channels including Spotify and Apple. Each episode can also be heard weekly on Premier Christian radio. You can connect with the show on a variety of social media destinations like Youtube, Whatsapp and Instagram.

Tom Middler

Tom was born in Cheltenham, England, growing up as a football lover in a school full of rugby teachers. After graduating from university, Tom began getting involved with sports writing and reporting, working on interviews and reports for EURO 2012 and World Cup 2014, before making the move to his current home in Vienna, Austria. Tom has since worked regularly on the radio for Austria’s state broadcaster ORF, as well as commentating on countless football matches for various TV channels, and working at the Olympic & Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Beijing and Paris for the Olympic Broadcasting Services. Aside from his work as a UEFA Reporter, Tom’s popular podcast “The Other Bundesliga” has provided English language coverage of Austrian football since 2018, and has made him one of the go-to experts for central European football knowledge.

Russ Bravo

Journalist and broadcaster, 40+ years experience. Former Sports Editor. Briefly reasonable golfer. Currently unreasonable table tennis player. Occasional runner. Brighton & Hove Albion fan. Runs comedy club on south coast. Writes stupid songs. Dark chocolate aficionado. Wife (1), children (3), grandchildren (2). Record collector. Known to cycle. Failed juggler.

I once went out with an anaesthetist. When we broke up, I felt nothing at all.

David Garratt

David studied graphic design at uni, worked as an illustrator, trained as a teacher, got ordained worked as an Anglican priest, then a school chaplain, and now combines that with working as an artist again. So almost back to the beginning. He’s a classic armchair sports fan, with lots of opinions while never being entirely clear of the rules or who’s who!

David is married to Helen (also an Anglican priest), and has two grown up children. He lives in East Sussex.
